Rockaway Township sees industrial sales and mosquito control amid local arrests

A series of significant events has unfolded across Rockaway Township involving real estate development, public safety incidents, and community outreach efforts. Local residents are navigating changes to the industrial landscape while also dealing with seasonal health concerns and recent law enforcement actions in their area.

Major Industrial Property Transactions

Two separate sales of large-scale industrial facilities have been completed or arranged within the Rockaway submarket this summer. Resource Realty of Northern New Jersey announced it has arranged the sale of a standalone facility located at 36 Pine Street. This specific asset encompasses 53,252 square feet of space designed for intensive manufacturing, assembly, or specialized logistics operations.

The building features heavy-duty infrastructure that includes two tailboard exterior dock doors and one drive-in bay to support industrial needs. In a separate transaction announced on July 10, JLL Capital Markets completed the sale of an 81,000-square-foot shallow bay industrial property in Rockaway. The seller was represented by Nicholas Stefans, Jason Lundy, and Luke Ceccoli from the JLL team.

LM Real Estate Partners acted as the seller for this second transaction while NorthBridge Partners acquired the asset. These two deals highlight a period of active commercial movement within the township's industrial sector during July 2026. The properties represent significant square footage changes in local ownership and potential future usage patterns for manufacturing or logistics.

Public Health Treatments Scheduled

The Morris County Division of Mosquito Control has scheduled several early morning adult mosquito control treatments for portions of Rockaway this week. These operations are set to take place between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., weather permitting, due to increased populations of adult mosquitoes in the area.

Treatments will be conducted using all-terrain vehicles that travel through affected neighborhoods during these early hours. The division has also scheduled similar treatments for East Hanover, Green Village, and Florham Park alongside Rockaway. Residents should expect crews on their roads before sunrise as part of this county-wide effort to manage insect populations.

Law Enforcement Actions and Court Verdicts

A 72-year-old man from Rockaway was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop in Denville. Garry Della-Calce was stopped by a Denville police officer at approximately 4:20 p.m. on July 18 after the vehicle was observed traveling on Bloomfield Avenue.

The arrest occurred during a routine motor vehicle stop that led to charges being filed against the Rockaway resident. In another legal development involving the area, a jury in Morris County returned verdicts of guilty for first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter and second-degree Vehicular Homicide on July 22.

These convictions were handed down after a five-day trial before Honorable Ralph regarding a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred on Route 80. The incident claimed the life of a Pennsylvania man in February 2025, though the defendant is identified as a Parsippany-Troy Hills resident rather than someone from Rockaway.

Community Support and Local Meetings

Local political figures have taken time to support law enforcement communities across New Jersey's 11th Congressional District during National Night Out. A representative noted it was great to spend time with police officers in Boonton, Denville, Rockaway Borough, Morris Township, and Florham Park.

The statement emphasized that being a police officer is harder today than ever before and called for more leaders willing to support those who protect families. Meanwhile, educational matters are also moving forward as the Boonton Township Board of Education scheduled a special meeting for Wednesday, July 29 at 6:45 p.m.

This board meeting will be held at Rockaway Valley School located at 11 Valley Road in Boonton Township and is open to residents concerned about local school issues.
