East Hanover faces mosquito treatments and Novartis job cuts

The Morris County Division of Mosquito Control has announced multiple treatment schedules for East Hanover following reports of increased adult mosquito populations. Crews have been deployed to address the rise in insects using both truck-mounted sprayers and all-terrain vehicles depending on the specific location and time of day.

One scheduled operation is set for Thursday night between 9:00 p.m. and midnight, weather permitting. The county stated that crews will use either Anvil 2+2 or another chemical agent during this evening window to target adult mosquitoes in residential areas.

Early morning spray operations planned

In addition to the evening treatment, officials have scheduled several early morning treatments for portions of East Hanover along with Rockaway, Green Village and Florham Park. These specific operations will take place between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. using all-terrain vehicles to access wooded areas where mosquitoes are breeding.

A separate treatment was previously conducted on Monday morning after officials reported another rise in the adult mosquito population affecting East Hanover and Hanover Township. That July 27 operation also utilized all-terrain vehicles between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to treat wooded sections of the township.

The frequency of these treatments indicates that county officials are responding to persistent pressure from high mosquito counts throughout the summer months. Residents in affected zones should be aware that crews may operate during early morning or late evening hours when insect activity is highest.

The individual reported seeing what appeared to be a tornado or intense storm cell and noted the sound was loud enough to startle them and shake their car. Their passenger, who happened to be their mother, argued they should go inside Wawa to seek shelter immediately.
