Boonton sees DWI arrests, historic farm stand reopening and community fundraiser

Two recent traffic crashes have resulted in the arrest of Bonton men on charges of driving while under the influence. These incidents highlight ongoing law enforcement efforts to address impaired driving across Morris County and within the town limits.

On Wednesday, July 8, Hanover Township Police Officer Robert Miele arrested Emmanuel Lomelicarvente following a three-vehicle crash. The 30-year-old Boonton resident was identified as the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the collision on that day.

Officer Miele responded to the scene and spoke directly with Mr. Lomelicarvente after observing signs consistent with impairment. He subsequently arrested the man for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police reports from Hanover Township.

A separate incident occurred on Saturday, June 20, when officers responded to a crash on Brooklawn Drive in Parsippany involving another resident of Boonton. Cory D. Herbert, aged 34, was taken into custody at approximately 10:33 p.m. after the collision.

Herbert registered a blood alcohol concentration that was nearly three times the legal limit during this arrest. He faces charges for driving while intoxicated following his detention by law enforcement officials on Brooklawn Drive.

Local businesses are coming together to support a family in need through a fundraiser titled A Quest for Ellie. More than a dozen downtown establishments will participate in the event scheduled for this Friday evening on Main Street.

The initiative is organized by Boonton Underground and aims to help child Ellie Cooper and her family purchase a wheelchair-accessible van. The fundraising activities are set to run from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., coinciding with the town's First Friday celebration.
