Belleville businesses can now apply for SBA disaster loans after May fire

Federal aid is available to small businesses affected by the warehouse blaze, while a new mayor takes office in July.

Governor Mikie Sherrill announced on June 17 that eligible small businesses and private nonprofits can apply for low-interest federal disaster loans from the Small Business Administration. The SBA approved this request following the devastating warehouse fire that occurred on May 3, 2026.

SBA representatives will be available to answer questions about applying for these Economic Injury Disaster Loans. This assistance aims to help local entities recover financial losses caused by the incident.

The new mayor is set to take office on July 1 and has already tapped two experts to assist with planning and recovery efforts in Belleville Township following the fire.

Meanwhile, town council members received an update regarding how this spring's warehouse fire might impact local taxes. Homeowners could face a proposed $175 tax hike under the new budget.
